If you are using a Chinese unbranded mobile phone then you should change your handset as soon as possible as by the end of this month these mobile are going to be completely banned in the country. It is estimated that at present there are around 30 million Chinese cellphones active in India which consists of roughly 8% of all mobiles in the country.
The reason for banning the mobile phones is the absence of IMEI numbers in these phones. IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) numbers are unique identity of mobile phones. Through this number the exact location of a mobile phone can be traced by mobile towers which is not possible in their Chinese counterparts. And this is the biggest risk. In past these cellphones have been used for terrorist activities for obvious reason that these phones are not traceable. Now DoT has asked all mobile operators to disconnect all such mobiles. source
